On this page you will get to know the two main views of the program. For navigation you have the usual keyboard shortcuts available under macOS. Please also note that for many views such as the toolbar, sidebar, category list, or text area, as with VoiceOver, you must start and stop interaction to read the contained entries.

When you open Legantoo for the first time, the focus of your screen reader is on the category list in the library. For exploring the program window, however, it makes sense to first navigate to the beginning of the window.

The first three controls are the close, minimize, and full-screen switches that allow you to quit the program, put it in the background, or maximize the window. The window title follows, and if you continue to navigate with the VoiceOver + right arrow key you are on the toolbar.

In the toolbar, you can navigate with the VoiceOver keys + left or right arrow. Here you will find the icons for Import, Extract Archive, Play + Pause, Stop and Mute. Which of these icons are active depends on whether you have opened a book with audio content. In that case, then e.g. the icons play + pause and stop are clickable.

By pressing the VoiceOver + right arrow key once you will now reach the sidebar. Here you can use the up and down arrow keys to switch between the „Media Center“ and „Book View“ program interfaces. The book view also changes automatically when you open a media in the library.

If you continue to navigate from the sidebar using the VoiceOver + right arrow key, you will be back on the category list. In this list, you will see all the default categories „BookShare“, „DAISY Books“, „E-books“, „Audiobooks“, „Radio Play“ and „Text Documents“. Here you can add new categories and media, rename existing ones, delete entries and move them.
Please note that as of version 1.2 you can also edit Legantoo's pre-configured main categories or add new categories at this level.

To select a category, use the arrow keys to navigate up and down in the category list. Use the arrow keys on the left and right to open and close the categories.

Now, if you press the VoiceOver + right arrow key, then you are in a list on the entry of the last heard or displayed media. Here you will always see the media titles you have used most recently.

Pressing the VoiceOver + right arrow key will bring you to the status bar, which VoiceOver will announce through a scroll area. It displays information such as „elapsed time,“ „remaining time,“ and „playing time“ of your currently playing media. The status bar entries can also be navigated using the VoiceOver + right arrow key.

With this you have already completely explored the program interface of the media library. In order to change to the book view, press the VoiceOver + left arrow key repeatedly until you are on the sidebar. Use the arrow key up to select the item „Book view“.

In the book view, you will find the chapter list of the currently open book and the text content of the selected chapter, if available. Otherwise, the text window remains empty. Using the chapter list you can move up and down with the arrow keys and use the arrow keys right and left to open and close entries.
You will also find the entries „Expand all“ and „Collapse all“ in the context menu, with which you can open or close the chapter tree completely.

The text area behaves like a conventional text editor. Here you have the usual keys for character, line and paragraph navigation available. Switch between the chapter list and the book text with the VoiceOver keys + right arrow or VoiceOver keys + left arrow.

The preconfigured navigation keys also allow you to switch between the different views quickly and easily: You can use Command + 1 to jump to the chapters, Command + 2 to the text area, Command + 3 to the book list, and Command + 4 to the most recently opened books.

You can also customize the view of the Legantoo program window to suit your needs. To do this, press VoiceOver + M to open the menu bar and navigate to the main menu item „View“. Here you will find some setting options, for example to hide the toolbar or statusbar. In this way, you remove unnecessary controls from the display area and simplify the program interface. Each time you start Legantoo, the selected state is automatically restored.
